How to Find the Perfect Fitting Pants

How to find the perfect fitting pants.

As a personal image consultant who has worked with 1000’s of women I have found that whether you are a size 2 or 22, pants can be difficult to fit.

I get it. Not all pants are created equal.

Before we continue to chat about fit, know that with Covid, shopping is different and it can be extremely difficult to find what you need with in-person shopping.

Shopping for clothes online has become our new norm.

As a professional stylist who now shops for her clients online 99% of the time, I am going to help you with my best personal styling tips and advice.

Something no one talks about when shopping for pants.

Personal Styling Advice Tip #1:

Decide on your preference. Do you know what styles and cuts look best on you? Are you aware of your body type and what styles flatter you? What styles make you feel most confident?

If you are a professional, powerful woman, knowing the answers to these questions will empower you to show up as the best version of you every time.

·       Straight

·       Wide leg

·       Boot cut

·       Skinny

·       Crop pant

Instead of getting overwhelmed with ALL the silhouette choices, begin with one look.

Personal Styling Advice Tip #2

Think about your measurements. When was the last time you measured yourself? Get current measurements so that you can easily make choices when shopping online.

·       Waist

·       Rise -waist to crotch

·       Back rise

·       Hips

·       Thigh

·       Inseam

Personal Styling Advice Tip #3

Stop wasting time ordering pants and that are not going to fit you perfectly and give you the confident feel and look you deserve.

Remember just because a particular brand is the perfect fit for your friend Emily, doesn’t mean they are going to fit you perfectly.

Personal styling is unique to you.

The goal is for you to love what you are wearing while feeling ultra-confident as a professional businesswoman.

When you have a strong self-image of how you are walking into the room or zoom room, others feel your self-esteem and success.

Style begins with the woman, not the clothes.

Does Your Style Confidence Begin On the Outside or Inside?

Do you tend to question your style, your fashion sense?

As you enter your closet, you are always wondering, what should you wear?

Asking yourself, does this look good?

You’re in a dressing room and can’t decide, “Should you buy that?”

What if…you could decide in seconds if this is a heck no or an absolute yes!

By knowing definitively, how you want to show up, how you want to be seen and ultimately feeling like a million bucks.

So often business coaches will say to me, “Annette your business is 100% visual, you need to do this.”

I agree it is visual.

But what most don’t know, confidence begins with your non-verbal style.

I believe and teach; style begins with the woman and not the clothes.

I’m sure you’ve been told a time or two, you have to buy that, it ‘looks’ so good.

Of course, your stylish bestie knows best, right?

And then unconsciously you submit to the opinion of the salesperson because you are in this massive doubt moment.

You arrive home with the beautiful shirt that you were told looks amazing on you, you neatly hang it up in your closet or maybe it doesn’t even make it out of the shopping bag.

And it hangs in your closet for months.

You take it out, try it on again, look in the mirror.

And wonder what the heck were you thinking?

You thought you loved it in the store.

What you didn’t realize was your stylish bestie and the salesperson, were looking at the outfit from their visual perspective.

You are wondering, if it looks so good, why don’t you like it?

But you know there is something about the way it feels that is important.

Know one else can make that decision for you but you.

One of the first steps I teach in my students and clients in the Reveal Your Radiance Style Academy is to identify your strengths, your values, and your essence.

Most people don’t understand that when you honor what you value, you will always feel comfortable in your clothing.

Your sparkle will naturally shine.

And ONLY you know that about you. Yes, there needs to be self-awareness.

The outside world is looking at your outfit from their perspective and their checklist of what they like.

I hate to tell you this, but they are not thinking about how you feel, only how you look.

100% Visual.

Why You Don't Wear 80% of Your Wardrobe?

Feel Good Fall Series

Did you know that statistics say, you only wear 20% of your wardrobe?

Which means you’re not wearing 80% of your wardrobe.

Have you ever thought about why don’t you don’t wear 80%?

Do you buy pieces that are just, o.k.?

You get home and think, it’s not great, but it is fine?

And then something happens in your mind when you go to reach for that piece, right?

It feels o.k. but most definitely NOT empowering, beautiful, or confident.

At the time, it didn’t really feel important what you purchased.

You just needed something to wear to your upcoming event and needed feel fine and good.

Or maybe you’re someone who buys unconsciously, not really having a reason for purchasing it.

You’ve been conditioned to think that if you bought more stuff, then you will be satisfied.

What would it feel like to LOVE your wardrobe?

I believe it’s about quality and not quantity.

In the Reveal Your Radiance Style Academy, there is an exercise called the Mini-wardrobe Audit.

1.       Identify the pieces you love and wear all the time.

2.       What are the pieces you love but don’t wear?

3.       What are the pieces you should love but don’t wear?

Identify why you DON’T love those pieces, so that you don’t keep repeating the same buying mistakes over and over.

1.       Is it the fit?

2.       The gaping button down shirt?

3.       The color?

4.       Was it an unconscious purchase because you wanted something new?

Style awareness, begin identifying why don’t you love certain pieces.

You are a powerful, confident woman who deserves to have an empowering wardrobe that lives inside your closet, I refer to as, your personal boutique.

The Designed Travel Wardrobe

Travel Wardrobe Tips Part 5

The Designed Travel Wardrobe

6 Ways to Design Your Easy-to-Pack Travel Wardrobe

  1. Let's begin with a simple T-shirt on its own.

  2. Add your accessories - I have my watch, I have my ring, so I feel very, very put together.

  3. I love layering pieces.

And now what I want to do is take this little t shirt down a notch. I'm going out after my conference, it's going to be to a casual restaurant. So I'm adding my white denim jacket just to take it down a notch but I still have the femininity the Polish of my black tee shirt. Okay, so now what we're going to do is this may be a conference where you want others to see you as a leader. You are amazing at what you do, you're successful and you want them to see a little bit more authority, wear a jacket. It’s polished and professional.

  4. Add Texture to your all black style

  5. Add Creativity - to create more fashion forward

  6. Your Shoes - black patent pumps and fun sneakers. One dressy and one casual.

Add sneakers to your stylish outfit, whether it's a skirt, whether it's a dress, whether it's a pair of pants, gives you so many more options and you’re comfortable.

Look at how simple this can be. I used jackets, I used shoes, and I used a sensory piece to change up my outfit in an instant.

Defining Your Travel Wardrobe Color Palette

Travel Wardrobe Tips Part 3: Defining Your Travel Wardrobe Color Palette

Do you have an upcoming business meeting and you’re already a little nervous about what to bring and want to make sure you look the part?

My goal for you is to dress with ease. Pack your suitcase with ease.

Ultimately, forgot about what you’re wearing and go do what you do best.

Do you find yourself stuffing your suitcase with clothing you never wear?

You arrive at your destination and wonder why you brought so much, right?

You didn’t wear 50% of what you brought.

You are not alone.

My number one tip is to…..drum roll please.

Only pack 2-3 colors.

#1 Simplifies your choices when putting your wardrobe together

#2 Gives you variety - fewer pieces and 2-3 colors actually give you more outfit options

How to Pack Your Suitcase and Lose the Wrinkles

Part 2 How to Pack Your Suitcase and Lose the Wrinkles

Part 2 of a 5 Part Series: Travel Wardrobe Tips

Wrinkling is always an issue when you’re cramming your suitcase full of clothes.

Are you someone who irons or steams all your pieces before putting them in the suitcase and only to arrive at your destination and it looks like you never touched them?

I have. A lot of wasted time, right?

So how do you navigate this?

1.       Think about travel fabrics. Synthetic fabrics like polyester or polyamide are more wrinkle resistant than natural fabrics like cotton or linen.

2.       Microfibers are also great wrinkle resistant as well as light weight and comfortable.

3.       Prints show less wrinkles than solids.

Plastic garment bags from your local dry cleaners.

Use plastic bags to hang quality clothing pieces that you want protected from wrinkles. If you’ve never tried this before, it works like magic.

Roll your clothes. Not only helps with wrinkling but saves room in your suitcase.

If you are a Marie Kondo fan, use her folding technique in your suitcase just like you do at home

And last, a travel steamer. They are small and convenient. And a must with cotton fabrics.

How To Plan Your Travel Wardrobe

How to Plan Your Travel Wardrobe Part 1

Do you want to pack with ease and forget about what you’re wearing once you arrive at your destination and know 100% you have the perfect pieces for your trip?

Welcome to Travel Wardrobe Tips: Part 1 of a 5 Part Series.

Are you someone who plans your travel wardrobe in your head and then packs at midnight?

Only to realize when you arrive at your destination, that you feel off?

Wishing you would have packed less, or realized you were under dressed and wished you had brought that dressier stylish piece or maybe you forgot to pack a coat?

Let’s talk wardrobe planning.

My first travel tip is to look at the weather app and plan ahead.

You want to make sure you are prepared for whatever the weather brings your way.

Nothing is worse than being caught in a rainstorm and NO coat.

Yes, that happened to me recently in Bend, Oregon.

Peace of mind is priceless. Pack a coat just in case.

Tip #2 – What are the activities you will doing on your trip?

Walking? Shopping? Business events? After-five event?

Are you prepared with the appropriate shoes?

We’ll be chatting later in the series about streamlining your shoe choices vs. filling your suitcase with heavy, bulky shoes.

Essential Ingredients to Elevate Your Style Confidence Part 4: Self-Acceptance

Essential Ingredients to Elevate Your Confidence, Part 4 of 5 Parts series: Self-Acceptance.

Have you caught your self being critical about your image, maybe more than you should?

Saying things like, “I don’t like my arms, I’m having a bad hair day, I hate my middle section?”

What if you began to focus on what you do like about yourself?

In business we talk say, “what you focus on, expands.”

Let’s chat about self-acceptance, I know it feels like a big emotional word.

In simple terms, it is, accepting you as you are.

Recognizing your strengths.

Self-acceptance is one of the most essential ingredients to elevating your confidence and letting your radiance be revealed.

Love to invite you to be part of my private Facebook Group: Style with Significance where we can continue our conversation.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/stylewithsignificance

Essential Ingredients to Elevate Your Style Confidence Part 3: Quality

Do you ever question the fit or quality of your clothing style?

Wondering if you’re truly stepping into your excellence?

When looking at the way a garment fits, quality is an attribute you need to take into consideration.

Most times, the higher the quality the better the fit.

Have you ever bought a pair of workout leggings at Ross or Target and thought they were, OK?

Then you purchased a pair of workout leggings at Lululemon and thought OMG these are the best fitting leggings I’ve ever had.

I have. You don’t think there is going to be a difference even though the style looks exactly the same, but there is.

The quality of the fabric can reflect how your clothing fits, how it hangs on your body, and the way it feels.

If you’re like me, I love my clothing to feel like it was custom made for me.

Many times, there are two camps of women; the camp that says, it is good enough. And the second camp who values quality, luxury, and refinement in her clothing.

I believe, those who say this is good enough have never given themselves the permission to experience the kind of quality I’m talking about.

Let’s look at a pair of pants.

You purchase a $79 pair of pants and after a few machine washings they don’t fit as well, they lose their shape, they are baggy in the butt, and now the fit and quality is compromised.

The pant hangs in your closet. And you’re not sure why you don’t wear them.

What if you decided to raise your standards and invested in better quality clothing?

Let’s talk RIO.

For example, you purchase a $300 pair of pants, wear them 1X a week, 48X a year…turns out that every time you wear the higher quality, better fitting pant, you invested $6.25 every time you wore them.

Is it worth it?

Heck yes, the pants made you feel like a million bucks.

That is priceless in my opinion.

The next time you’re thinking about confidence or style confidence, think about the quality of the pieces you’re investing in.

If you’re new to this, begin by investing in ONE piece that allows you to feel like a million bucks.

This is about fit, how the fabric feels against your body, and the way the style adapts to your body type.

Something that may have never occurred to you; your non-verbal confidence oozes when you walk into a room.

You are experiencing your clothing supporting you to step into your excellence.

Essential Ingredients to Elevate Your Style Confidence Part 2: Courage

Have you wondered if you could pull off a specific look?

But you stopped yourself because you were afraid of what others were going to think?

In Part 2 of the 5 Part series, we’re going to talk about Courage.

You may be thinking what does courage have to do with style and image?

More than you think.

The dictionary defines Courage as bravery, which is also the opposite of fear.

Thirty years ago, I learned a concept from the book, Feel the Fear and Do It Anyways.

The ‘bullseye’ of a target was a metaphor of staying inside your comfort zone.

When I learned that, it was a picture I wanted to change.

Are you someone who tends to wear the same styles and same few colors all the time?

If you knew that you would not be judged, what would you love to wear? What image would you like to project?

If you never go outside the ‘bullseye’ circle because you are afraid of what others are going to think, how long will you stay in your bullseye style comfort zone?

What if you took one small step towards a style that made you feel like a million bucks?

One small step to the next circle.

Observe your comfort zone of style growing as well as your Courage and Confidence.

You may be thinking, it’s time to be more visible online or when you enter a zoom room.

Try one NEW accessory piece. Maybe a statement necklace. How does it feel?

One baby step leads to the next big step of courage.

Instead of a head-to-toe red dress, maybe it’s a red shoe. A red necklace.

One step of courage leads to increased confidence which then leads to elevating your Style Confidence.

It’s time to look as good as you feel!

If you are feeling stuck in your style comfort zone and not sure how to get out of it or where to begin, I’m here to help.

Let’s Chat, https://www.annettebond.com/contact

3 Essential Ingredients to Elevate Your Style Confidence

This is Part One of a Five Part Series where I will be diving deeper into what are the essential ingredients of leveling up your style confidence.

What does the Dictionary have to say about Confidence?

·       Full Trust

·       Belief in oneself

·       Assurance in oneself.

I would agree.

Are you guilty of separating who you are from your personal style?

You’re a smart successful woman who has possibly told yourself that your outer image really doesn’t matter.

I disagree. It matters.

You are a Radiant Woman. You are brilliant and amazing.

Others are looking for alignment when they meet you, is your outer image matching who you say you are?

If not, they don’t hear you.

Your clothing choices speak their own non-verbal language.

We’re going to take a journey over the month of July to chat openly about elevating your style confidence.

How do you get it?

What does it look like?

Tips #1

What is ONE strength of yours that you admire?

Whether you see that strength in your career or business, everyday life, your environment, or even your health.

One of my strengths is passion.

Whether I’m working in my business, serving clients, or connecting with a girlfriend, passion is infused through my life naturally.

I remember hearing years ago the saying, “how you do one thing is how you do everything.”

Tip #2

Become aware of how you talk about yourself.

Do you say, “I hate my big tummy”?

Do you look at pictures of yourself, and always mention in that still small voice, “I hate my wrinkles.”

Did you know that you can destroy your confidence in an instant by your negative self-talk?

Awareness, so powerful.

Tip #3

Go into your closet and choose an outfit or single piece that represents your ONE strength.

Maybe it’s a beautiful blouse or scarf.

The clothing piece is to signify your ONE strength.

It’s not an either or, success or style

Embody your ONE strength.

When you begin looking at yourself as a Radiant Woman from the inside out, your energy changes.

Your style confidence will reveal itself.

Guaranteed.

Stay tuned for Part Two of the Five Part Series every Thursday for the month of July 2021.

Annette Bond
Imagine if You Stopped Questioning Your Personal Style

As a woman I have often felt that society has put women into a generality that all women love to shop and have a natural fashion sense.

Agree or disagree?

From my experience, many women only shop because they “have to” not because it is enjoyable.

It can sometimes feel hard and stressful according to clients who I work with.

Well, I did some of my own digging to see where this paradigm began, and this is what I found according to Psychology Today.

According to the socio-biologists, women are linked to shopping in the same way that men are linked to sports. Often women's behavior is explained by something like the "shopping gene": men are the "hunters" (conquering stuff) and women are the "gatherers" (finding stuff).

Interestingly, it began historically, as an offshoot of advertising and commercialism, as a way to encourage women to feel in charge—deceptively inviting them to make choices and decisions of their own.

What if I told you that adopting a personal style was reflective of the real you?

Not what someone else told you to be.

What if I gave you permission to be try new styles that intrigued you?

Garments that made you feel joyful.

Like my client Mary, who wants to experiment with yellow.

Pieces that make you feel beautiful. Maybe a feminine color, like blush pink.

An accessory that yells, BOLD.

Why not?

It all begins in the investigative process of discovering who are you?

What are your likes and dislikes?

What is your current lifestyle and what kind of pieces can you add that support your way of life?

This is how I work differently.

We begin with the Power of You.

You are a woman in charge.

And you get to make choices that bring out the best of you and allow you to step into your excellence.

As a personal image consultant who empowers women to get dressed with ease and show up confidently, one thing I know for sure….

Many women question if they have a personal style, and are not sure where to begin.

Join me where we will be talking more about this at my upcoming Style Strategy and Confidence Masterclass on Thursday, June 24th @ 1pm PST.

What Does an Image Consultant and Deion Sanders Have in Common?

My son Ryan introduced me to Deion Sanders favorite quote years ago.

Look Good. Feel Good. Play Good.

 Then they Pay Good.

I remember so clearly how Ryan memorized the quote and was buying into its truth.

As a twenty-something young man at the time, of course he looked up to the professional football player.

 He was cool and successful.

Being in the business of image and style for over 25 years, and working with 1000’s of women, it’s never really about the fashion but how the clothing makes one feel.

It affects your self-image and self-esteem.

When a piece of clothing is worn, it exerts an influence on the wearer’s psychological processes by activating associated abstract concepts through its symbolic meaning, Galinsky, Journal of Experimental Social Psychology.

The term coined by Galinsky, is “Enclothed Cognition.”

Dr. Adam Galinsky study found, "Clothes invade the body and brain, putting the wearer into a different psychological state. You have to wear the coat, see it on your body, and feel it on your skin for it to influence your psychological processes."

The study featured undergraduate students who were either given a white doctors coat or told to wear street clothes and were administered a test for selective attention, such as spotting minor differences in similar pictures.

Those who wore the doctor’s coat made about half as many errors as those in street clothes.

When you are gearing up to put your best foot forward, what do you do?

As a businesswoman, you choose your most “confident look” in the closet.

Just like professional athlete Deion Sanders, it is gameday.

Expressing yourself and being confident in your self-image is one way to give yourself an edge whether you are powerful businesswoman or professional football player.

As a professional football has a brand with his uniform.

What does your businesswoman wardrobe say about you?

Is it expressing your uniqueness?

Do you have a signature look that differentiates you?

Does it reflect your expertise and brand?

Maybe it’s time to try on your ‘look the part’ confident look and step into your excellence?

Do You Question if You’re Too Old to Pull-off a Certain Style Look?

Wondering, am I too old to wear that, is that too young for me, can I pull it off?

Another birthday, brings a bigger number and often we question, is that age appropriate?

I’m addressing this question because I just celebrated my birthday.

Instead of focusing on age, what if you tried on something NEW and you felt beautiful and elegant?

Maybe you have told yourself that younger is better?

Begin that conversation in your head with self-acceptance.

Guess what, you’re never going to be younger than you are today.

What if...the color was perfect, you loved how it felt on your body, and it fit like a dream?

What if…you felt more empowered?

As a personal image consultant who helps women with their personal styling and creating authentic confident looks, one thing I know for sure….

Style begins with the woman, not the clothes.

Wear colors and prints that make you feel alive.

Choose styles that make you feel current.

Try a new lip color or gloss.

Stand out and be noticed. I give you permission.

Get outside your comfort zone and try something NEW, have fun.

Look in the mirror, and you will see how young at heart you really are.

Do You LOVE Your Outfit?

I have nothing to wear, have you ever said that to yourself?

But we all know you have a closet full of clothes, right?

Maybe the better question to ask yourself, why don’t you LOVE the garment?

One of things I hear from women frequently is; finding clothes that FIT.

Finding clothes that fit your body as it changes with age.

Maybe your weight has fluctuated.

You bought the garment on a whim because you wanted something new, but later realized it was not quite right, and you have never worn it again?

You gave in to the notion that it was an OK fit, and went with it, because you couldn’t find something that felt customized to your body type?

It is baggy in certain areas.

Maybe it’s too short or too long?

You just don’t love it. I hear you.

I believe, nothing is worse than having a wardrobe that doesn’t fit properly.

Every time you put the piece on, you feel just OK vs. the confidence you were craving.

What if…you began asking yourself every time you decided to make a purchase, do I love this?

What if…you began looking at your clothing choices with a more critical eye and asking yourself, does this align with how I want to show up?

What if…you began giving yourself permission to let go of pieces that didn’t empower you to step into your excellence?

Is it time to ‘try on’ the best version of you?

What Does Style Have to Do with Strategy?

You may think of the word strategy as business related or the serious stuff in life.

We’re talking style, right? Yes.

For some, you identify with the word strategic, that’s how you operate best, and others may think it feels so masculine to combine it with personal style.

You may feel style is presumed to be fun, fashionable and personal, certainly not strategic.

Have you ever had an experience that you couldn't stop looking at the presenters clothing and wondering, "what were they thinking”?

I believe most businesswomen have a closet full of clothes they never wear because they don’t have a style strategy.

A strategy is your approach.

If you want a wardrobe that is aligned with your personal brand, you need to be strategic.

If you want to get noticed in 7 seconds or less as a powerful woman, you need to be strategic.

If you want others to listen to you as a thought leader, you need to be strategic.

Agreed, choosing clothes for the next level version of YOU can be....

·        overwhelming

·        lots of second guessing

·        wasted mental energy

Is it time to ‘try on’ and create your personal Style Strategy?

Getting Ready for Your Branding Photoshoot with a personal Image Consultant

A brand photo shoot’s sole purpose isn’t to just capture beautiful photos, there is strategy behind the visuals. And Yes, we want you to ultimately have beautiful photos.

A brave new look.

A brand photo shoot is to help your business STAND OUT and thrive in your niche, further developing your brand presence and communicating a story.

We want to make sure your clothing choices are complimenting your brand and telling the story you are intending – creating brand harmony with you as a business woman.

7 Questions to consider when choosing your clothing pieces:

  1.       Branding colors – what are the 2-4 colors you want to emphasize?

  2.       What are 2-3 words you want others to feel about you when they see your pictures?

  3.       Do you feel ultra-confident in your clothing choices? Did you know that fitted clothing always looks better on camera vs. a non-fitted look?

  4.       How many wardrobe changes will you have?

  5.       Do you need to purchase new pieces? With virtual shopping, making sure they arrive in plenty of time to review.

  6.       Accessories – think about your favorite pieces and how they show up on camera.

  7.       Shoes – will they be seen?

Your photoshoot needs to be on purpose. It is your brand. It is representative of you; it is your business card and how others perceive you.

You want to make sure your photoshoot pictures are capturing you at your BEST all while telling your story.

Step into your Excellence. Confidence. Self-worth. Reveal Your Radiance.

Strong Women Advice from My Mother

Strong Women Advice from My Mother

How to be confident can sometimes be a very abstract thought or concept.

You can read books.

Seek advice from other confident women.

Step outside your comfort zone to try new things.

Or maybe you are seeking competence in a particular area of life, and confidence is a natural aftereffect.

If you’re like me, confidence in whatever area of life is something we’re all looking to embody and improve.

With Mother’s Day upon us, I wanted to honor my mother who I only had for 48 years of my life.

My most memorable years were in my teens. She was trying to teach me things that I wasn’t always 100% on board with.

But I listened anyways.

It wasn’t until I was an adult that I appreciated the “strong woman advice” she was teaching me.

Honestly, I’m not really sure that elevating my confidence was the goal she set out to accomplish, but in the journey of her motherly love to help me be the best version of me, confidence was achieved.

In my vlog, I share the three memorable virtues that I lovingly refer to as, “strong women advice.”

My mother’s strong women guidance is not just helpful advice, but is a gateway to healthy self-esteem, self-love, and being the BEST version of you.

1.       The Golden Rule, treat others the way you would like to be treated.

2.       Believe in Yourself, you can do anything you set your mind to.

3.       Show up as the BEST version of you. Mentally and physically.

As a personal image consultant who helps women with their personal styling and creating confident looks, one thing I know for sure….

Confidence is Attractive
